There have been further awards for Fjord designed projects. To accompany the Meffy’s picked up by the BBC iPlayer and Flirtomatic earlier in the week, Flirtomatic achieved a double award at the New Media Age (NMA) Awards last night.

Fjord’s client work recognised at Meffys awards in London

Testament to Fjord’s strategic and delivery capabilities, two consumer services designed by the Fjord team won further international recognition at last night's Meffys awards organised by The Mobile Entertainment Forum (MEF).

With Flirtomatic winning ‘Best Social Networking’ and BBC iPlayer on mobile taking best ‘24-TV & Video Service’, Fjord demonstrated its success in developing for clients concepts that will capture, engage and entertain consumers alongside a deep understanding of the technical challenges and opportunities of the mobile.

Fjord founders create two of the fastest growing digital media companies in Europe

Fjord founders Mike Beeston, Mark Curtis and Olof Schybergson are among the hottest digital media entrepreneurs in Europe. During the past five years they have created two of the fastest growing digital media companies according to The Media Momentum 2009 Awards.

Flirtomatic, managed by Mark Curtis, was placed 5th in the ranking of top 50 – the highest placed mobile company – and Fjord, headed by Olof Schybergson, was placed 11th and the highest placed user experience agency.  At the core of both businesses is a relentless focus on customer service, value and forward thinking vision.

The fight between mobile browsers and apps is over (both won)

It’s funny how fast things change. Only a few years ago mobile applications were all the rage, partly because apps provide a controllable user experience, and mobile browsers were poor at the time. However, there were always some disadvantages of mobile apps. For most companies pre-loading applications onto devices was not an option, and downloading and installing apps was a pain for end users. Many people couldn’t even find the app after it had been installed. Fixing problems in an app, or upgrading to a new version of the app, was a pain too, because a whole new app needed to be downloaded. There are also several competing application technologies: Java J2ME, Symbian, Windows Mobile, etc.

Fjord attracts investment from Beringea

Beringea Limited, international private equity firm, has announced a growth capital investment in Fjord - Europe's leading cross platform digital design consultancy. Additional funding was provided by GP Bullhound – leading technology investment bank – who advised Fjord on the financing round.

The capital funding will be used to help Fjord accelerate growth and expand into new regions, as well as explore new service opportunities. In addition to the funding, Beringea will leverage its media experience and extensive network of industry executives, entrepreneurs and thought leaders to further support Fjord.
