Green Meets Digital at the Cross Innovation Academy

December 12th 2010

As part of our on-going relationship, Fjord joined the Cross Innovation Academy for an inspiring round of interdisciplinary exchange and lively discussion this time on the key subject of "Green meets Digital".

Fjord joined about 50 executives from various industries and of various nationalities at the invitation only event in Munich on November 18th and 19th.

In the organiser's words, the changing environment is changing the way we do business. Sustainability, ecology, CSR, green IT and social entrepreneurship are key issues worldwide. The cross-dynamics and innovation speed of "Green" and "Digital" leads to unsolved challenges and unthinkable questions.

In that context, Fjord's Mike Beeston talked in his keynote about the status of environmental sustainability in digital services making the point that integration has been very slow. This is despite the fact that digital media, by their very nature, are a service delivery platform and are having a marked impact on our service economy. However, in the future he sees this will change: services will begin to support the environment. This is because digital media provide a service platform that interconnects everyone and everything. Future services will hence have the capacity to connect consumption with the impact on the environment and offer us better alternatives.
