Since arriving at Fjord just over two months ago, I’ve been on a magical mystery tour to a number of our studios. I’ve headed to Berlin to learn more about the great work we are doing on end-to-end projects with automotive and financial service clients. I’ve travelled over to Stockholm, to see how we are designing and delivering digital product creation to retail clients. I’ve also been fortunate enough to head over to our studio in Austin, to see how our friends at Chaotic Moon are creating, experimenting and having serious amounts of fun, when it comes to digital product creation R&D.
What’s struck me about all of the studios I’ve been to and the designers I’ve met along the way, is how strong the Fjord culture is, whatever the location. All three of the studios I’ve visited, are also incredibly inspiring and hackable spaces to work in too. From the kitchens, to the coffee machines and most importantly in Berlin, the ability to turn desks into a dance floor in about 23 minutes!
But one of the most inspiring spaces I’ve been to is the new Centre for Innovation in Dublin. Soon to be the home of Fjord’s newest studio in Europe, it’s going to be a space that I will be spending a fair amount of my time too.
The Centre for Innovation is a multidisciplinary research and incubation hub, leading the global innovation programme at Accenture. Housed in the former Facebook office at Silicon Docks, we’ve been fortunate enough to be involved in the centre from the initial design stages. It’s an amazing hackable space. A living building that will host a range of innovation experience workshops. Designers, engineers, AI and analytics experts will come together to tackle real world problems for clients. A space where a design led approach, co-creation and experimentation is at the heart of everything – so what better place for us to open our next Fjord studio.
All we need now is some new Fjordians! We have just started recruiting for a range of roles including; Business Designers, Content Design Leads, Copywriters, Creative Technologists, Front End Developers, Interaction Designers, Service Designers and Visual Designers. We are also looking for a fearless Design Principle to head up our new studio.
