Fjord London offers eight internships per year to aspiring individuals, and on the 11th of October we held our second assessment day at the London studio. Read about the first one here. The Fjord internship day allows candidates to come in and show us what they are all about, and possibly secure a place with Fjord in 2014, as designers or project managers or business consultants.
The candidates that attended the day were divided into four groups. They were all asked to bring a special item with them, and within their group had to decide on one item design a service around. Each group had a designated Fjordian to provide help and guidance along the way.
The morning was spent doing research and creating ideas around the chosen item, while keeping the overall theme, service design, in mind. The afternoon was then spent bringing the ideas to life, and creating tangible products to present to a panel of Fjordians at the end of the day.
One group created an app called ‘Safe Trip’, aimed at young or new travellers in particular, but relevant to all travellers in general. Their idea was to create an easy to use service, providing security and safety through communication, to help travellers have a relaxed and fun holiday. The app provides a security in terms of connectivity with useful contacts, such as parents, insurance companies, and embassies. Whether the traveller wishes to know what to do if they lose their passport and need to contact an embassy, or need medical treatment and a quick contact to their insurance company, ‘Safe Trip’ is the go-to app, having all information pre-stored, providing a hassle-free way to travel anywhere in the world.
Another group crated an app called ‘On Track’, a digital tool to support financial planning, offering a personalized service to users by providing their individual values and goals. The app then tracks spending and reports findings back to the user, while collaborating with banks and other existing channels.
The day was a great success for both candidates and Fjordians, who expressed that the day had been fun, inspirational, and full of learning. The day ended with drinks and socialising at the Fjord studio, and a chance for the candidates to mingle with each other and, of course, with Fjordians.
