Sports innovation, singing clients, and startups: The most dynamic week?

It’s no secret that we live in a fast-changing world. At Fjord, we’ve set ourselves the target to be a living business – a business that perpetually learns, evolves and changes. We want to constantly become a better version of ourselves, and be the most dynamic team in our industry.

We’re also proud to be part of Accenture Interactive, the biggest digital agency in the world. Accenture Interactive is moving forward fast, and that momentum is also giving our Fjord team more rocket fuel.

For me, the combination of a few events in different parts of the world last week offered a good illustration and reminder of the global reach and the dynamic and positive change that we’re fortunate to be part of, and often catalyze.

In Hong Kong, we moved into new digs

Our Hong Kong Fjordians, together with Accenture Interactive and PacificLink, moved into their iconic new home: the Accenture Interactive Studios. The 40,000-square-foot studio space brings together strategy, experience design, creative content and technology under one roof. It’s created with our vision of the future of workspaces, and is an environment that promotes co-creation, agility and experimentation. This progressive workspace will inspire and foster innovation that will help shape this vibrant part of the world.

In San Francisco, the dawn of a new digital fan experience

We also announced that we’ll have a central role in reimagining the fan experience for the NBA’s Golden State Warriors. As the exclusive technology and innovation partner in a multi-year deal, Accenture will collaborate with the Warriors to design and implement an immersive and engaging experience for fans in the arena, restaurants, retail businesses, offices and plazas that will comprise the team’s new San Francisco arena at Chase Center and the surrounding district. At Fjord, we’re delighted to help shape an iconic experience for an iconic sports team and their fans.

In London, our family grew a lot bigger

Another big announcement was about Accenture Interactive’s acquisition of Karmarama, the UK’s largest independent agency. Karmarama is renowned for blending creativity, digital and data to develop campaigns that help brands better engage with consumers. We’re thrilled to have them join the Accenture Interactive family and we look forward to telling great stories and creating meaningful and impactful experience-led marketing with them. It’s not every day that your family grows with 250 people, but it feels good when it happens!

In Helsinki, we participated in Europe’s largest start-up event

Most of my week was spent in Helsinki, Finland, at Slush 2016, where Fjord and Accenture had a fully packed program. Slush is Europe’s largest start-up event, and it’s possibly the most progressive event in the tech and innovation domain. On the opening day, I had the pleasure of joining a panel with thought leaders from AirBnB, Sync Project, and the City of Helsinki to discuss the importance of design at the very top of organizations. Slush 2016 also saw the culmination of the Accenture Digital Innovation Challenge (ADIC), the digital concept competition organized by Accenture, Fjord and Slush. Young design talent teamed up to innovate new services, product concepts or business models that reflect real-life business challenges for leading companies. It was great to see the sheer enthusiasm and innovation coming from the grassroots. Huge congratulations to the main prizewinner, Team Airiot, which was coached by Fjord Helsinki’s Yonatan Kelib!

In São Paulo, our client sang us a love song

To end an already excellent week, when I landed back in New York I received a message that contained the recording by a client of ours in Brazil. She was so delighted with the final project presentation our team had given her that she sang us a song as feedback, and sent it as a recording to our team. What better way to show your appreciation and love than through a song? Hearing her sing to our team was a great moment that capped a very special week for me.

I’m thrilled to be leading the curious and diverse bunch of more than 800 Fjordians as we set our eyes on 2017. With all this amazing momentum and action around the globe in just one week, imagine what we can do in a year!
